Backstage with Miss Alie

It was the vulnerability of having ones emotions shown from the inside out, the raw intensity and abstract story telling of dance, that kept Miss Alie moving from a young age. She has discovered the delights of many forms of dance including Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Modern, Character and Ballroom; each with their own personality and beauty. As a teenager, she began to grow an enthusiasm for choreography and as a result, she entered two pieces in the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s First Steps Choreographic competition while training to be a teacher.

Miss Alie is a member of the Cecchetti Society of Canada and has graduated with her Associate. Having spent most of her dancing life at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, she continued to teach there for 2 years – bringing her joy of dance and music to kids ages 3 to 16 before starting a new adventure in Calgary. She is excited to share her knowledge of dancing, singing, and acting with the students of Soul Connexion.

Q & A with Alie

What inspires you?

The connection between the musician and the dancer inspires me. When a dancer is able to connect with the musicians on the same level (whether it be with a recording or live) is a memorable and pure moment.

What song moves you?

Forget Not by Ne Obliviscaris. The first 7 minutes of this 12 minute song is an instrumental of violin, guitar, bass and drums that is played with heart and soul.

What do you love about your job?

Getting to share my knowledge and passion with others.
