After being introduced to yoga over ten years ago, Rita was drawn to the many benefits of regular practice. Not only did these benefits include increased flexibility and strength, but also greater balance and tranquility in life. Rita is a gentle and thoughtful teacher that encourages students to accept themselves as they are, while inspiring them to set new goals for growth. She endeavors to teach mindful asana (posture) practice, and incorporates breath awareness and meditation into her lessons.
Rita is a graduate of the Yoga Alliance recognized 200 hour yoga teacher training program with Marion “Mugs” McConnell at the Southern Okanagan Yoga Academy. In addition to this training, she received a 30 hour certificate in Yin Yoga with Debby Sereda and participated in a weekend workshop on Pain Care Yoga with Neil Pearson. She demonstrates a passion for life-long learning through the numerous other yoga workshops she has attended. Most recently, she attended a yoga retreat in Sorrento, B.C. with Dr. Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani from Pondicherry, India.
Rita is a certified teacher with over twenty years of teaching experience with the Calgary Board of Education. During her full time career she worked first as a teacher-librarian, then taught both elementary and high school. She is fluent in Spanish and taught in the Spanish Bilingual program for over ten years. When she is not teaching yoga, she now works as a substitute teacher.

I am inspired by the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. My soul is constantly replenished by the beauty and wonder of nature.
