We believe that Dance is for everyone! If you are the competitive professional looking to fine-tune your skills, the first time dancer wanting to shake it up a little or if you want to introduce your little one to the world of dance, you will all find a dance program and experience at Soul Connexion like no other.

We welcome dancers from three years of age and up with classes for children, teenagers and adults. Our positive environment encourages self-confidence, technique improvement and an overall healthy lifestyle. Class placement is based on ability rather than age for both our competitive and recreational programs.

We are located in north west Calgary serving more than 15 communities as we are just off stoney train and Beddington blvd. Try a dance class today and start learning how to move and groove in style.

Active Art (3-5 yrs)

The perfect combination of dancing, acting and crafting. This class is a wonderful way to introduce your child to the fine arts. Students will have a sneak peak at Jazz, Ballet, Creative Movement and Funk while learning the basics in acting while experiencing the excitement of crafts.

Tiny Toes

Tiny Toes (3-5 yrs)

This class is a wonderful way to introduce your little one into the world of dance and physical activity. Children will learn the basics in Jazz, Ballet and Creative movement while developing their interpersonal skills and body awareness. Our positive and encouraging environment will allow your child to be one step ahead.

Jazz

Jazz is energetic and versatile with large movements. This style of dance originated from the European and African Cultures and has continually evolved over the years. It became well known in the 1930’s when it came to life in Hollywood productions. Traditional Jazz is closely connected to Jazz music and like the music, there are many sub-styles making up the genre. Jazz is a faster style of dance that incorporates technique, muscle strength and a variety of bodylines and levels. This is a great option for students who want to work on the technical components of dance.

Jazz Roots

Jazz Roots

This is the cooler side of jazz, the groovy side. Learning traditional styles of dance is most appealing for those who want to connect with their bodies, dance low to the floor and use more rhythm and downbeats in their feet patterns. Jazz Roots incorporates technical elements typically danced to older styles of music.

Ballet

Ballet

Ballet is all about grace, fluidity and beauty. Achieving proper technique allows a dancer to excel in all disciplines of dance. Our ballet program uses  Cecchetti Syllabus which is used in pre professional and professional ballet companies such as Alberta Ballet.  Classes focus on improving body alignment, muscular strength, body flexibility and fluidity of movement. Ballet training is mandatory for all students participating in competition and is a great option for those who want to work on posture, technique and strength.

lyrical

Lyrical

Lyrical puts the heart and soul onstage. It is a beautiful combination of ballet and jazz with emphasis on creativity and expression. By connecting technique with creativity, dancers use the elements of a song to guide their movements.

Modern

Modern

Modern satisfies the creative side by bending and breaking some of the rules of technical dance. This style of expressive dance originated in the 19th century and has a strong ballet base. Modern dance is a journey of exploration through a variety of abstract, interpretive and creative movements. Several styles of modern dance exist, combining a wide range of movement with technical steps. This is a wonderful option for dancers who want to explore their range of motion and focus on self-expression.

Tap

Tap

Tap is the height of rhythm and style, ideal for getting funky, groovy, or just downright fast. It’s a great class for connecting coordination with rhythm and style. Students will learn a combination of technical positioning, unique sounds and rhythmic footwork. Tap is a combination of precise rhythmic patterns accompanied with different tempos and music genres. This is a great option for students who are musically inclined and love to move their feet.

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre

Musical theatre is larger than life and an opportunity to immerse yourself in a character. Combining dance, drama and theatre is a fun and creative way to explore the many components of performance. The primary focus is on connecting song and dance through acting. Musical Theatre is the perfect class for those who wish to expand their comfort levels and perform.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop

This popular style taps into the best dance floor moves and above all, attitude. Hip Hop hit the floor in the 1970’s and primarily originated from the Unites States. The style is very low to the ground with emphasis placed on body isolations, contractions, and fluidity. This class will teach you how to dance with style while working on your coordination, body isolations and rhythm. You can have fun, work on your dancing skills and get a great work out.

Funk

Funk

Funk is all about grooving and getting down in uninhibited celebration of the music. Funk, which is a softer style of Hip Hop, focuses on the upbeats and explores a variety of body levels. It’s a great workout as muscle memory, strength endurance and coordination are put to the test. This is an excellent form of dance for students who want to let loose and have fun.

Breaking

Breaking

This street dance was created in Manhattan and the South Bronx in the early 1970s. It’s one of the four components of the cultural movement known as Hip-Hop. Breaking is comprised of four main elements: toprock, downrock, freezes, and powermoves. The dance is strongly connected to funk music, particularly the break of a song. Breaks in funk music usually are the most hard-hitting parts of the song and would inspire breakers to “go off.” This dance will teach you more than just the moves but also how to connect with the music and express oneself within the parameters of the dance.

Krump

Krump

This old style of dance is becoming more popular with the increasing familiarity with the demand for hip-hop. It is an urban style of street dance characterized by expressive high-energy moves. Krump integrates movement in every part of the body. It is the type of dance you usually see in hip-hop battles due to its hard-hitting nature.

Salsa

Salsa/Latin

Salsa is the hottest partner dance enjoyed worldwide which focuses on style and smooth hip movements. This class is perfect for all who want to build their dancing confidence while learning in a fun and relaxed environment. Couples and singles are welcome in the adult programs. We also offer latin styles to teenagers as it will help learn body control while gaining an appreciation for another culture.

African

African

African dance is a major part of everyday life for African citizens. It is used as a way to express, pray and celebrate. This grounded style of dance is extremely energetic and incorporates the entire body while moving to different drumming patterns. This is a fun class that students at any age and level can enjoy.

Young International

International

Experience the different cultures, styles and dances from around the world. Learn the basic steps of Latin, African, and Turkish. This class will challenge your creativity and feet work as you step outside of your comfort zone into a whole new world of dance.

contemporary

Contemporary

Combine technique and exploration with style and you have Contemporary. This new popular style of dance is about self expression, creativity and abstract lines. Dancers who enjoy dancing outside of the box while combining different elements of dance genres will fully blossom in this class.

Belly Dancer

Belly Dance

The ageless art of belly dancing is the hottest way to limber up, burn calories and energize your body. This exotic aerobic workout incorporates traditional steps of belly dancing to help tone your abs, legs, hips, and arms, while training your body to move in a new way. This class is about embracing your feminine energy and learning how to isolate and shake while having fun.
