Dance

Soul Connexion believes in setting our dancers up to success by providing top quality instruction, proven teaching methods, and a comfortable environment. We offer a healthy balance of competitions, performances and class choreography. We train dancers technically and competitively while adding an element of excitement and fun to each of our classes. Our center is a great option for people who want to experience all realms of dance, participate in performances, showcases and the option to compete. Exams will be offered every second year and will be by invite only.
Competitions
Soul Connexion will be entering a few numbers into competition during the first year of operations. Competition is an additional commitment and cost and is by invite only. Interested students will have the opportunity to audition for group placements, solos and duets. It is important that we set our students up for success and therefore students may be held back from participation if the teacher feels that the individual is not ready. A full schedule of rehearsal times will be available in December and rehearsals commence from January to April. Competition season is from April to June and students will participate in two Calgary competitions only. Should we feel our students are not ready for competition, we will participate the following year.
Year End Shows
Each class will have the opportunity to present their in-class routine at our year-end recital. The show will be held on a weekend in June and will be open for family and friend. All students will be required to purchase a costume for the event and each costume will cost $70 to $120 per costume.
Performances
Dancers will have the opportunity to participate in local performances at special events. The goal is to perform three times per year, which will involve students in the community and provide them with performance experience.
Class Placement
At the end of year, the teachers will provide recommendation for student placement for the following year. These recommendations will be implemented, as our staff wants to ensure that each child is in the class best suited to their individual learning and development.
Year End Student Awards
Three special awards will be presented at the end of the year to a Junior, Intermediate and Senior Dancer who demonstrate a positive example of kindness and respect to fellow students and staff. These recipients will be provided with a $200 scholarship for Beat It Dance Camp.
Monthly Student Awards
Recognition is extremely important for confidence-building and class dynamics. At the end of each month, one student per class will receive a student of the month award. This token of appreciation is given to hard-working and positive students who serve as role models to their fellow classmates.
